Fort Ord National Monument (Northern Portion) US Army Munitions Cleanup

Munitions remediation work in the northern portion of the Fort Ord National Monument is underway. Road and trail closures are in place and access will be limited in parts of the northern portion of the Fort Ord National Monument due to this work. Closures of access corridors (major paved roads) within this area will occur during work hours (Monday-Thursday 6:30am-5:00pm). Trails within remedial work areas may remain closed for the duration of the cleanup depending on work being conducted in that area. Remediation activities include both mechanical and manual vegetation removal and boundary/grid staking, as well as surface and subsurface munitions and explosives of concern removal.

Please be aware that vegetation cutting and surface removal operations are moving into new work areas. See map at top. Please continue to check this website for updated information.

It is the Army’s goal to minimize road and trail closures to the extent possible to reduce the impact of this work on recreational users of the Fort Ord National Monument.
