We recognize that the Army’s prescribed burn program, which is a necessary part of the munitions cleanup program, is of interest to our neighbors. The Army will not be conducting a prescribed burn at Fort Ord in 2019 due to fiscal constraints. We’ll provide updates when the next prescribed burn is scheduled in a future burn season.
BACKGROUND ON WHY BURNS ARE REQUIRED: The Army’s prescribed burns at Fort Ord are being conducted as part of the munitions cleanup program. Burns are conducted to both encourage recovery of endangered fire dependent plant species and to facilitate continued munitions clean-up. To protect sensitive species, the prescribed burn season is limited in duration from July to December.
