As an active U.S. Army post, Fort Ord's mission was to train soldiers to protect
the interests of the United States. An important part of the mission was infantry
and artillery training. As a result of this training, unexploded ordnance remains
on portions of the now-closed Fort Ord. If you find an object (or even a piece
of one) that resemble military munitions DO NOT TOUCH IT. Instead, MARK THE
LOCATION, and contact the appropriate agency.
View examples of military munitions and read more about them in the Safety
Alert pamphlet or visit the Military
Munitions Response Program web page.
