Assessment East Garrison – Parker Flats Land Use Modifications, Fort Ord, California:
Annual Biological Monitoring Reports
Compliance with the February 1994 HMP required that biological resources be characterized to determine baseline conditions before unexploded ordnance removal activities begin. The information from initial studies was used to identify measures to minimize impacts on HMP resources and as a baseline in restoration efforts following ordnance and explosive removal activities to reestablish healthy maritime chaparral, vernal pools and ponds. To maintain compliance with habitat management and monitoring requirements presented in the April 1997 HMP, biological resources are monitored after ordnance and explosive removal activities have been completed. The HMP identifies species and habitats of concern on the installation and specifies mitigation measure to monitor the successful regeneration of species and habitat following removal of ordnance and explosives. As part of the mitigation, follow-up monitoring would be conducted for a period of 5 years to document effects of remediation.
