6th Fort Ord Five-Year Review

The U. S. Department of Army (Army) has begun conducting a formal review of all in-place cleanup remedies for the Fort Ord Superfund Site in Monterey County, California. The results of the basewide review will be documented in a report known as a Five-Year Review. For Fort Ord, this will be the 6th Five-Year Review; previous Five-Year Reviews were conducted in 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017, and 2022.
What Is a Five-Year Review?
Five-Year Reviews involve a comprehensive assessment of the performance of an environmental cleanup program and its ongoing protectiveness of human health and the environment. The Review Team will evaluate if environmental standards that affect the site have changed, whether the cleanup continues to be protective of human health and the environment and if it can be expected to remain protective after completion of the project. How You Can Participate in the Five-Year Review.
In August and September 2026, community members, local officials, and agency representatives complete surveys or interviews to provide information about the site and any concerns. The survey takes about 10 minutes.

What Happens with the Results of the Surveys and Interviews?
The results will provide information about successes and/or problems with implementation of the remedies. These findings will be incorporated into the 6th Five-Year Review which will be completed in September 2027.

El Departamento del Ejército de los Estados Unidos (Ejército) ha iniciado una revisión formal de todas las medidas de limpieza implementadas en el sitio Superfund de Fort Ord, en el condado de Monterey, California, denominada Revisión Quinquenal. Para Fort Ord, esta será la sexta Revisión Quinquenal; las anteriores se realizaron en el 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017 y 2022.
¿Qué es una Revisión Quinquenal?
Las revisiones quinquenales implican una evaluación exhaustiva del desempeño de un programa de limpieza y de su capacidad continua para proteger la salud humana y el medio ambiente. El equipo de revisión evaluará si han cambiado las normas ambientales que afectan al emplazamiento, si la limpieza sigue protegiendo la salud humana y el medio ambiente, y si cabe esperar que continúe ofreciendo dicha protección una vez finalizado el proyecto.
Cómo puede participar en la Revisión Quinquenal.
En Agosto y Septiembre del 2026, se invita a los miembros de la comunidad, a los funcionarios locales y a los representantes de las agencias a completar encuestas o entrevistas para proporcionar información sobre el sitio y cualquier inquietud que puedan tener. La encuesta dura unos 10 minutos.
