Guided Nature Walk inside the Fort Ord Impact Area
Event: Interested in seeing future lands of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) at Fort Ord? Consider joining the Fort Ord Cleanup and BLM staff in a nature walk in portions of the Fort Ord National Monument that are not currently accessible to the public. We have scheduled two walking tours of cleared areas within the Impact Area. Please plan on a three hour event.

Schedule:
9:00 – 9:45 Open House
9:45 – 10:00 Mandatory Safety Briefing
10:00 Depart for short and long walks

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED: This event is limited to 100 participants.

HOW TO MAKE RESERVATIONS: Call the Fort Ord Community Relations Office at (831) 393-1284 or send an e-mail to outreach@fortordcleanup.com with the name of each participant.

HOW TO GET THERE: Arrive at the tour departure location (Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Work Center) no later than 9:45 a.m. for the mandatory safety briefing. For those interested in the long walk, we will take a 30 minute bus ride into the Impact Area followed by the nature walk. The shorter walk will depart from the parking area.

You have permission to drive your private vehicle to the BLM Work Center for this specific event. For driving directions, click here.

Estimated time for walks:
-2 hour for the shorter route (about 1.6 miles)
-3 hours for the longer route (about 4 miles)

Adverse weather (for example lightning, heavy rain) will cancel, but call the Fort Ord Community Relations Office at 831-393-1284 or check the news section of www.FortOrdCleanup.com if in doubt.

To ensure that your experience is enjoyable, please remember:

  • For all hikes, wear boots or sturdy walking shoes appropriate for dirt and gravel roads. Dress in layers.
  • The weather can be unpredictable. No matter what season it is, be prepared for rain, wind, fog, or sun.
  • Carry ample water to drink.
  • Participants under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.  Click here to download a copy of the waiver.  Waivers will also be available at the registration tent.

This activity is not recommended for participants under the age of 8.
